- Reaffirming Commitment: The declaration reaffirms global commitments to indigenous knowledge, biodiversity, and traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) for the promotion of health and well-being.
- Scientific Approach: It emphasizes the need to apply rigorous scientific methods to better understand, assess, and, when appropriate, apply holistic, context-specific, and personalized approaches to healthcare.
- India’s Role: India, as the host of the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Gujarat, plays a crucial role in scaling up WHO’s capacities to support member states and stakeholders in implementing the summit’s action agenda.
- Summit Topics: Deliberations at the summit covered a wide range of topics, including health and well-being, research and evidence, universal health coverage, primary healthcare systems, digital health, biodiversity, human rights, equity, and ethics.
- Catalyst for Traditional Medicine: WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the “Gujarat Declaration” will serve as a catalyst to harness the potential of traditional medicine, focusing on its integration into national health systems.
- Universal Health Coverage: The declaration emphasizes the role of evidence-based TCIM interventions in achieving universal health coverage (UHC) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration: It promotes multi-regional, multi-disciplinary, and multi-stakeholder collaborations to maximize the benefits of TCIM in global health.
- Digital Health and AI: It highlights the importance of developing and applying digital health technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), in advancing digital health resources for TCIM and people’s health and well-being.

2. The Pradhan Mantri Dakshata Aur Kushalata Sampanna Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) Yojana
Topic: GS2 – Government initiatives
- Scheme Name: Pradhan Mantri Dakshata Aur Kushalata Sampanna Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) Yojana
- Launch Year: 2020-21
- Objective: Enhance competency of target groups for employability and socio-economic development
- Target Groups: SCs, OBCs, EBCs, DNTs, Safai Karamcharis (including waste pickers)
- Age Criterion: 18-45 years
- Income Criteria: No income limit for SCs, Safai Karamcharis, and DNTs; Rs.3 lakh for OBCs, Rs.1 lakh for EBCs
- Cost to Trainees: Training is provided free of cost.
- Stipend:
- SCs and Safai Karamcharis: Rs.1,500 per month for Short Term and Long Term training
- OBCs, EBCs, and DNTs: Rs.1,000 per month for Short Term and Long Term training
- Wage Compensation:
- SCs, OBCs, EBCs, DNTs: Rs.2,500 per candidate for Up-skilling/Reskilling
- Safai Karamcharis: Rs.500 per candidate for Up-skilling
