1. Indian Council of Agricultural Research signs a MOU with Amazon Kisan to Empower Farmers

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has signed an MoU with Amazon Kisan for farmer guidance and scientific cultivation of crops.

Issue:

ICAR will provide technological support to farmers through Amazon’s network, aiming to improve livelihoods and increase crop yield.
-
The partnership will ensure access to high-quality fresh produce for consumers through Amazon Fresh.

Dr. Himanshu Pathak highlighted the importance of secondary agriculture and critical inputs in farming, and ICAR will collaborate with Amazon for technology transfer and capacity building.The MoU was signed by Dr. US Gautam from ICAR and Mr. Sidhrtha Tata from Amazon Fresh Supply Chain & Kisan.

The successful pilot project in Pune has led to an expansion of the collaboration, with Krishi Vigyan Kendras playing a crucial role in extending precise agriculture practices.

ICAR and Amazon will work on farmer engagement programs, demonstrations, trials, and capacity building initiatives to enhance farming practices and profitability.

Amazon will provide training support and assist farmers in marketing their produce through its online platform, enabling direct connections with consumers.

2. Government launches ‘SAGAR SAMRIDDHI’ to bring transparency & efficiency

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched ‘Sagar Samriddhi,’ an online dredging monitoring system, to accelerate the ‘Waste to Wealth’ initiative of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways.

Issue:

The system, developed by the National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC), improves upon the old Draft & Loading Monitor (DLM) system.
-
It provides real-time dredging progress reports, daily and monthly progress visualization, dredger performance and downtime monitoring, and easy location tracking.
-
The system aims to minimize human error and promote transparency and efficiency in project implementation, reducing the cost of dredging and enabling effective reuse of dredged materials.
-
The system has been adopted by Cochin Port and Mumbai Port, and is on a trial basis at New Mangalore Port and Deendayal Port.
-
All major ports and IWAI (Inland Waterways Authority of India) will be mandated to monitor dredging activities through this system, with customization from NTCPWC.
-
The NTCPWC, established under the Sagarmala Programme, conducts research and development for the marine sector and provides solutions for building a robust marine industry in India.
-
It has state-of-the-art capabilities for research and consultancy in various areas such as ocean modeling, coastal engineering, sediment transport, navigation planning, and more.
