1. RS. 466 LAKH GST COLLECTION REIMBUSED UNDER SEVA BHOJ SCHEME DURING LAST THREE YEARS

Topic: GS2 – Government initiatives.

Context:

  • Over the past three years, a total of Rs. 466 lakh in GST collection has been reimbursed under the Seva Bhoj Scheme.

More information about Seva Bhoj Scheme:

  • The Seva Bhoj Scheme is a flagship initiative launched by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, with the primary objective of providing financial assistance to Charitable/Religious Institutions for serving free food to the general public, devotees, and pilgrims.

Key features of the scheme are as following:

  • Reimbursement of GST: Under the scheme, eligible Charitable/Religious Institutions can claim reimbursement for the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and the Central Government’s share of Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) paid on specific raw food items used for serving free meals.
  • Covered Institutions: Charitable/Religious Institutions, such as temples, gurdwaras, mosques, churches, and other similar entities, are eligible to participate in the scheme.
  • Specific Food Items: The scheme covers raw food items purchased by eligible institutions, such as rice, wheat, pulses, vegetables, ghee, oil, etc., which are used in the preparation of free meals.

2. Forest coverage in the country

Topic: GS3 – environment and ecology.

Key findings of India State of Forest Report (IFSR):

  • Forest Survey of India (FSI), under the Ministry of Environment, conducts biennial assessments of forest cover in India through the India State of Forest Report (ISFR).
  • As per the latest ISFR 2021, the total forest cover of India is 7,13,789 square kilometers, which accounts for 71% of the country’s geographical area.
  • The forest cover has increased by 1,540 square kilometers between ISFR 2019 and ISFR 2021.
  • To protect and improve forest cover, afforestation and tree plantation activities are undertaken by States/UTs, supported by the Ministry through various schemes like the Green India Mission (GIM).
  • The Nagar Van Yojana (NVY) aims to create 600 Nagar Vans and 400 Nagar Vatika in urban and peri-urban areas using the Compensatory Afforestation Fund (CAMPA).
  • The Ministry takes steps to combat forest fires, providing financial assistance for prevention and management measures under the Centrally Sponsored Forest Fire Prevention and Management Scheme.

3. Implementation Of Har Ghar Jal Yojana.

More information about Har Ghar Jal Yojana:

  • Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal is implemented by the Government of India in partnership with States to provide tap water supply to every rural household in the country.
  • Water is a state subject, and the responsibility for planning and implementing piped water supply schemes lies with the respective State/UT governments.
  • The Har Ghar Jal Yojana (HHJ) is an ambitious scheme of the Government of India to provide drinking water to all tap connections in rural India.
  • Under the HHJ scheme, the government will develop the water supply infrastructure in rural areas. This includes reservoirs, pumping stations, pipelines, and water treatment plants. The government will also provide tap connections to rural households.
  • The rural India will have access to clean drinking water, which will help them prevent diseases. It will also save women and children time from having to fetch water, which will allow them to spend more time on education and other activities.
  • The HHJ scheme will also boost economic development in rural India. With access to clean drinking water, people will be more productive. This will help promote industries and businesses in rural areas.

4. Nai Manzil Scheme

Topic: GS2 – Government initiatives.

About Nai Manzil Scheme:

  • Nai Manzil is a Central Sector Scheme launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, on 8th August 2015.
  • The primary aim of the scheme is to empower and provide educational opportunities and skill development training to minority youth who do not have formal school leaving certificates.
  • This includes youth from the minority communities who are school dropouts or have studied in community education institutions like Madrasas.

Objectives of the scheme:

  • Educational Empowerment: The scheme focuses on providing formal education to minority youth who have not completed their education up to Class VIII or X.
  • Skill Development: Nai Manzil emphasizes skill development training for these minority youth to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship potential.

5. DPIIT and Govt. of Gujarat jointly launch ‘One District One Product’ Wall at Garvi Gujarat.

About One District One Product Scheme:

  • ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) is an initiative launched by the Government of India to promote and enhance traditional and indigenous industries at the district level.
  • The primary objective of this scheme is to encourage local artisans, craftsmen, and small entrepreneurs to manufacture and market unique products that have a distinct identity and are synonymous with a particular district.

Key features of the ‘One District One Product’ initiative:

  • District-Centric Approach: The scheme follows a district-centric approach, focusing on identifying one specific product for each district that has the potential for economic growth and employment generation.
  • Promoting Local Industries: The aim is to promote and strengthen traditional industries and art forms that are already prevalent in the district, rather than introducing new industries.
  • Economic Diversification: By supporting and popularizing local products, the scheme aims to diversify the district’s economy and reduce dependency on a limited number of industries.
  • Skill Development and Capacity Building: The initiative also includes skill development and capacity-building programs to enhance the artisans’ and entrepreneurs’ skills involved in the production of the identified product.

Benefits and Impact:

  • The ‘One District One Product’ scheme offers several benefits, including preserving traditional craftsmanship, boosting rural income, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering economic growth at the grassroots level.
  • By focusing on specific products from each district, the scheme also helps in creating a strong local identity and brand recognition for those products in the domestic and international markets.
