The various Indian armed forces have distinct missions and are administered by distinct ministries. The bulk of external threats to India’s security are controlled by the Ministry of Defence with assistance from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The state police are responsible for maintaining law and order within the states and union territories of India. Each state has its own police force, which is responsible for enforcing state laws and maintaining order within the state.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is India’s primary internal intelligence agency. It is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence on a variety of topics, including internal and external threats to national security, terrorism, and organized crime.
In addition to these agencies, there are also a number of other organizations that play a role in the security of India, including the Coast Guard, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and the Special Protection Group (SPG).
