1. In the direction of realizing vision of “Sahkar Se Samridhi”, the Government of India has taken five more important decisions.

The Government of India, has made five significant decisions in line with the vision of “Sahkar Se Samridhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation).
-
These decisions were reached during a meeting between Union Home Minister, Minister of Cooperation, and senior officials from the Ministry of Cooperation and Department of Fertilizers in New Delhi.

Issue:
The following 5 important decisions were taken in the meeting-

Identification of non-functioning Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies (PACS) to encourage them to operate as fertilizer retailers gradually.
-
Inclusion of non-functioning PACS under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras (PMKSK).
-
Integration of PACS in the marketing of organic fertilizers, particularly Fermented Organic Manure (FoM)/Liquid Fermented Organic Manure (LFOM)/Phosphate Enriched Organic Manure (PROM).
-
Fertilizer companies to act as aggregators for small bio-organic producers under the Market Development Assistance (MDA) scheme, with PACS included in the supply and marketing chain as wholesalers/retailers.

Utilization of PACS as Drone entrepreneurs for fertilizer and pesticide spraying, as well as property survey.

Increased income for Primary Agricultural Credit Societies.

Enhanced employment opportunities in rural areas.
-
Improved accessibility of fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, and agricultural machinery for farmers at the local level.

2. MAIDEN INDIA-FRANCE-UAE MARITIME PARTNERSHIP EXERCISE
Topic: GS2 – International relations – Defence cooperation.

The first edition of the India, France, and UAE Maritime Partnership Exercise commenced on 07 Jun 23 in the Gulf of Oman.

Issue:
-
-
-
Participating assets include INS Tarkash and French Ship Surcouf, both equipped with integral helicopters, French Rafale aircraft, and UAE Navy Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
-
The exercise will last for two days and involve various naval operations such as Surface Warfare, Missile engagements, Helicopter Cross Deck Landing Operations, Advanced Air Defence Exercise, and Boarding operations.
-
Personnel will also be exchanged for the sharing of best practices.
-
The exercise aims to enhance trilateral cooperation and address both traditional and non-traditional threats in the maritime environment.

It will promote collaboration in ensuring the safety of mercantile trade and freedom of navigation in the region’s high seas.

3. Landmark reforms in Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream sectors of Hydrocarbon Industry Undertaken: Union Minister

The Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, addressed the FIPI’s Oil & Gas Awards-2022 ceremony.

The ceremony recognized clean energy initiatives by Indian oil and gas companies.
-
Shri Puri emphasized the importance of accessibility and affordability of energy during India’s journey towards energy transition and achieving ‘Net Zero Carbon’ by 2070.

The government has undertaken reforms in the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the hydrocarbon industry in India to ensure energy security and ease of doing business.

Critical gas pricing reforms have been approved to create a sustainable, affordable, and secure energy future and incentivize investment in India’s exploration and production (E&P) sector.
-
The administered pricing mechanism (APM) for gas will be determined monthly based on the average Indian Crude Basket Prices, with a ceiling and floor.
-
The government’s plan for clean and green energy includes diversification of supplies, increased use of alternate energy sources, expanding E&P footprint, and promoting electric vehicles and hydrogen.
-
India has enacted the Green Hydrogen Policy with a target of 5 million tonnes of production by 2030.
