1. PM to distribute 71,000 appointment letters to newly recruited government employees at Rozgar Mela on May 16.

Topic: GS3.

Issue:

      • The Rozgar Mela aims to fulfil the Prime Minister’s commitment to prioritize employment generation.

      • It is expected to catalyse further employment opportunities and empower the youth to participate in national development.

      • The event provides meaningful opportunities for job seekers to find employment.

      • Newly appointed individuals will be trained through Karmayogi Prarambh, an online orientation course for government department appointees.

2. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Inaugurates Integrated Biological Control Laboratory in Hyderabad.

Topic: GS3.

Issue:

      • Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare inaugurated the Integrated Biological Control Laboratory at NIPHM Hyderabad.

      • The lab aims to promote the use of biocontrol for pests to reduce pesticide use and increase farmers’ income.

      • Technologies developed in the lab should be taken to farmers with limited access to information.

      • The lab will help ensure no pesticide residue in organically produced agricultural commodities for export.

      • The lab has state-of-the-art facilities for production methodologies of biopesticides, biocontrol agents, biofertilizers, etc.

      • It promotes sustainable agricultural practices and conducts training programs on pest management.

      • The facility will contribute to chemical-free sustainable agriculture and promote eco-friendly practices for pest management.

      • It will enhance the knowledge and skills of agriculture officers, extension officers, and farmers in soil health management, organic farming, and natural farming.

3. India and EFTA are taking further steps towards a new Trade and Partnership Agreement (TEPA).

Issue:

      • India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland) have made progress in their Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) negotiations.

      • The Ministerial meeting in Brussels involved Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry of India, and leaders from EFTA countries.

      • The discussions focused on the modalities of engagement for a comprehensive TEPA.

      • Both sides emphasized the importance of trust, respect, fairness, and balance in the agreement.

      • A TEPA between EFTA and India can bring economic benefits, including integrated supply chains, business opportunities, increased trade, investment flows, job creation, and economic growth.

      • The delegations agreed to intensify their efforts and continue discussions steadily.

      • More meetings are planned in the coming months to reach a common understanding on critical issues related to TEPA.

4. MoHUA’s Mega Campaign ‘Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’ launched.

Issue:

      • Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep S. Puri, launched the MoHUA’s campaign ‘Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’.

      • The campaign promotes the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR) for waste management.

      • It aims to establish RRR Centres where citizens can deposit clothes, shoes, books, toys, and plastic for reuse or recycling.

      • The campaign aligns with the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE.

      • The RRR Centres will be launched nationwide on May 20, 2023, as one-stop solutions for waste collection.

      • Collected items will be refurbished or transformed into new products, promoting a circular economy.

      • The campaign includes a theme song contest on the MyGov platform, with attractive prizes.

      • It will culminate on June 5, 2023, with the Pledge for LiFE and large-scale cleanliness drives on World Environment Day.

5. Rehabilitation Council of India Spearheads Transformation in Education with National Workshop on Inclusive Learning.

Topic: GS1, GS3.

Issue:

      • The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is a Statutory Body established by an Act of Parliament.

      • RCI’s main mandate is to standardize, regulate, and monitor training programs in the field of special education and disability.

      • The Council maintains the central rehabilitation register (CRR) and promotes research in this domain.

      • RCI prescribes minimum standards of education and training for 16 categories of professionals and personnel.

      • The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) emphasizes flexible, experiential, and inclusive education.

      • The workshop aims to enhance capacity in special education and disability training institutions.

      • National-level speakers will discuss NEP 2020 provisions and capacity building of training institutions.

      • The outcomes of the workshop will facilitate the effective implementation of NEP and human resource development programs.

      • RCI plans to initiate national programs for flexible, experiential, and inclusive education.

      • The workshop contributes to creating an inclusive educational landscape and empowering individuals with disabilities.
