1. Biofuels has a huge role to play in the Energy Quadrilemma.

Topic: GS3 – Environment

 Context:

• Shri Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, highlighted the role of biofuels and the importance of collaboration among G20 countries in realizing the full potential of biofuels.

Issue:

• He addressed the Global Biofuel Alliance Seminar organized by MoP&NG during the 3rd Energy Transition Working Group Meeting in Mumbai.
• The untapped potential of biofuels and its appeal in terms of clean energy transition, diverse applications, techno-commercial viability, and financing is very important.
• The significance of biofuels in boosting economic prosperity, energy security, access, affordability, sustainability, and decarbonization cannot be neglected.
• Technology advancements offer various biofuel feedstock options such as sugarcane, corn, agricultural waste, and bamboo.
• Cooperation among G20 nations can contribute to the further development of the global biofuels market.
• The seminar had participation from Chairpersons and executives of oil and gas majors, leaders from international energy organizations, industry bodies, major automobile manufacturers, producers, and technology providers.
• The forum acknowledged the expanding relevance of biofuels, including SAF alcohol for aviation, biodiesel, compressed biogas, ethanol production, renewable DME, etc.

2. Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to come out with an “Integrative Health” policy.

Topic: GS2 – Health

 Context:

• The two-day National Ayush Mission Conclave began with a commitment from the Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to prioritize “Integrative Health” for the public’s health and wellness.

Issue:

• Two ICT initiatives of the Ministry of Ayush were launched: the E-Learning Management System (eLMS) and Comprehensive AHMIS, an upgraded EHR system.
• The conclave focused on various aspects of the National Ayush Mission, including budget absorption, supply of medicines, capacity building, up-gradation of AHWCs, and technological integration for research and quality assurance.
• The National Ayush Mission aims to enhance the availability, accessibility, and quality of Ayush healthcare services through AHWCs as part of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
• The Union Cabinet has approved the operationalization of 12,500 Ayush HWCs, and over 8,500 AHWCs have been set up across India to date.,

3. Overall Mineral Production Increases by 6.8 % in March, 2023.

Topic: GS1 – Natural resources

Issue:

• The index of mineral production in the mining and quarrying sector for March 2023 was 154.2, which is 6.8% higher compared to March 2022.
• The cumulative growth for the period April 2022 to March 2023, compared to the previous year, is 5.8%.
