Rani Lakshmibai
Birth and Early Life:
- Rani Lakshmibai, born as Manikarnika, was born on November 19, 1828, in Varanasi.
- She belonged to a Marathi Brahmin family and was named Manu Bai.
Marriage to Maharaja of Jhansi:
- Married Raja Gangadhar Rao, the Maharaja of Jhansi, at the age of 14.
- Named Lakshmibai after marriage and became the Queen of Jhansi.
Tragedies and Widowhood:
- Faced personal tragedies with the death of her son shortly after birth and her husband in 1853.
- The British East India Company annexed Jhansi, citing the Doctrine of Lapse, refusing to recognize her adopted son as the heir.
Courageous Leadership:
- Rani Lakshmibai displayed exceptional courage and leadership during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
- She actively led her army against the British forces during the Siege of Jhansi.
Legacy and Symbolism:
- Rani Lakshmibai is remembered as a symbol of resistance against colonial rule and women’s empowerment.
- Her fearless and valiant efforts in the face of adversity have made her an iconic figure in Indian history.
Death in Battle:
- Rani Lakshmibai died in battle on June 17, 1858, fighting against the British in Gwalior.
- Her legacy lives on as a symbol of bravery and patriotism, inspiring generations to come.
