Rani Lakshmibai

Birth and Early Life:

Marriage to Maharaja of Jhansi:

  • Married Raja Gangadhar Rao, the Maharaja of Jhansi, at the age of 14.
  • Named Lakshmibai after marriage and became the Queen of Jhansi.

Tragedies and Widowhood:

  • Faced personal tragedies with the death of her son shortly after birth and her husband in 1853.
  • The British East India Company annexed Jhansi, citing the Doctrine of Lapse, refusing to recognize her adopted son as the heir.
