1. Chairman KVIC inaugurates several KVI activities.

Context:
- Chairman of KVIC, Shri Manoj Kumar, inaugurated various Khadi and Village Industries (KVI) activities during his visit to Tamil Nadu.
About KVIC:
- Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory organization established in India.
- It was founded in 1956 by the Government of India to promote and develop Khadi and village industries.
- KVIC operates under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
- The organization’s primary goal is to provide sustainable employment opportunities in rural areas.
- KVIC focuses on promoting traditional industries like Khadi, handloom, and other village-based crafts.
- It aims to uplift rural artisans, alleviate poverty, and contribute to rural economic development.
- KVIC’s flagship product is Khadi, which is handspun and handwoven fabric traditionally associated with India’s freedom struggle.
- The organization also supports other village industries like pottery, handicrafts, beekeeping, agro-processing, and more.
- KVIC provides financial assistance, training, and technical support to artisans and entrepreneurs in rural areas.

2. INS VAGIR ON AN EXTENDED RANGE DEPLOYMENT TO FREMANTLE, AUSTRALIA
Topic: GS3 – Defence sector.
Context:
- INS Vagir is an Indian Navy submarine.
- It’s on an extended-range deployment that started in June 2023.
- The submarine will reach Fremantle, Australia, on August 20, 2023.
- INS Vagir is the fifth submarine of the Kalvari class and was commissioned in January 2023.
- It’s based in Mumbai, India.
About INS VAGIR:
- INS Vagir is a Scorpène-class submarine in the Indian Navy.
- Part of Project 75, a modernization initiative for the navy’s submarine fleet.
- Constructed at Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, India.
- Scorpène-class submarines are known for stealth, versatility, and advanced technology.
- Designed for anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and more.
- Aims to enhance India’s maritime security and strategic capabilities.
About Project 75:
- Project 75: Indian Navy’s endeavor to modernize its submarine fleet.
- Objective: To acquire advanced diesel-electric submarines with stealth and combat capabilities.

3. India announces definition of Green Hydrogen.
Topic: GS3 – Clean energy.
Context:
- The Indian government has announced the Green Hydrogen Standard for India.
- Issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.
- This standard defines the emission limits for hydrogen to be classified as ‘Green,’ sourced from renewable methods.
- The definition covers both electrolysis-based and biomass-based hydrogen production methods.
Emission Threshold:
- Green Hydrogen is defined as having a well-to-gate emission of no more than 2 kg CO2 equivalent per kg of H2.
- Well-to-gate includes processes like water treatment, electrolysis, gas purification, drying, and hydrogen compression.
Methodology and Certification:
- The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy will establish a detailed methodology for measuring, reporting, monitoring, and certifying green hydrogen and its derivatives.
Nodal Authority:
- The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, will be responsible for accrediting agencies for monitoring, verification, and certification of Green Hydrogen production projects.
Significance:
- The Green Hydrogen Standard notification brings clarity to India’s Green Hydrogen community.
- India becomes one of the early countries globally to define Green Hydrogen.
