1. Prime Minister pays tributes to Lokmanya Tilak on his Jayanti.

 Lokmanya Tilak, also known as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, was a prominent figure in India’s freedom struggle and a social reformer. Here’s more information about him in bullet points:

  • Born on July 23, 1856, in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India.
  • Played a significant role in the Indian independence movement and was one of the early leaders of the Indian National Congress.
  • Advocated for complete independence (Purna Swaraj) from British colonial rule and popularized the slogan “Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it.”
  • Founded two influential newspapers, Kesari (Marathi) and The Maratha (English), to spread nationalist ideas and raise awareness about Indian freedom struggle.
  • Organized public celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi and Shivaji Jayanti as a means to bring people together for the nationalist cause.
  • Instrumental in the promotion of the concept of “Swadeshi” (self-reliance) to boycott British goods and encourage the use of Indian products.
  • Advocated for education in vernacular languages to promote nationalist ideas and cultural awareness among the masses.
  • Along with Bipin Chandra Pal and Lala Lajpat Rai, he formed the famous “Lal-Bal-Pal” triumvirate of nationalists.
  • Played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Home Rule League, which aimed to attain self-rule for India.
  • Was arrested and imprisoned by the British authorities multiple times for his nationalist activities.

2. Prime Minister pays tributes to freedom fighter, Chandra Shekhar Azad on his Jayanti

Chandra Shekhar Azad, born as Chandrashekhar Tiwari, was a prominent Indian freedom fighter and a revolutionary during the British colonial era. Here’s more information about him:

  • Born on July 23, 1906, in Bhavra village, present-day Alirajpur district, Madhya Pradesh, India.
  • Joined the Indian freedom struggle at a young age and was deeply influenced by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919.
  • He adopted the pseudonym “Azad,” which means “free” in Urdu, to symbolize his commitment to the cause of India’s independence.
  • Associated with the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), a revolutionary organization that aimed to achieve complete independence through armed resistance.
  • Was involved in several acts of resistance against British rule, including the Kakori Train Robbery in 1925 to fund the revolutionary activities.
  • Known for his fearlessness and dedication to the cause, he evaded arrest several times, which earned him the nickname “The Immortal Azad.”
  • Played a crucial role in promoting revolutionary ideas among the youth and was seen as a symbol of resistance against British oppression.
  • On February 27, 1931, Azad was tragically surrounded by the British police at Alfred Park (now Chandra Shekhar Azad Park) in Allahabad. Instead of surrendering, he fought valiantly and chose to shoot himself, keeping true to his pledge of never being captured alive.
  • Chandra Shekhar Azad’s sacrifice and legacy continue to inspire generations in their fight for freedom and justice in India.
