1. Chandrayaan-3 mission is expected to send home information about Moon’s atmosphere, soil, minerals etc.
Topic: GS3 – Science and technology
Chandrayaan-3 Mission and Objectives:
- Chandrayaan-3 is expected to provide groundbreaking information about the Moon’s atmosphere, soil, minerals, and more.
- Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover are successfully carrying out mission objectives on schedule.
- Science payloads on Chandrayaan-3 focus on integrated assessment of lunar surface features, thermal properties, surface elements, plasma environment, seismic activities, and meteor impacts.
Payloads and Experiments:
- Vikram Lander carries seismometer (ILSA), ChaSTE, Langmuir Probe (RAMBHA-LP), and a laser retroreflector array.
- Pragyan Rover carries Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS).
- Chandrayaan-3 also carries Spectropolarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) for exoplanet identification.
Mission Details:
- The Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) studies lunar seismic activities and meteor impacts.
- ChaSTE studies temperature variations in the moon’s top soil.
- Langmuir Probe observes near-surface plasma variations.
- APXS and LIBS measure lunar surface elemental composition.
- The mission’s lifespan is designed for one Moon Day (14 Earth days).
Upcoming Missions:
- ISRO is preparing for the launch of the Aditya-L1 mission to study the Sun.
- Gaganyaan, India’s first manned mission to space, is a major upcoming project.
Space Sector Developments:
- India has made significant progress in space technology and infrastructure development.
- Space sector reforms have made space accessible to Indian private players.
- The Indian Space Policy 2023 covers all stakeholders.
- The emergence of space sector startups has been witnessed, with nearly 200 startups working in various domains.

2. PARTICIPATION OF INDIAN AIR FORCE IN EXERCISE BRIGHT STAR-23 AT CAIRO AIR BASE, EGYPT
Topic: GS2 – defence cooperation
Context:
- An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent has departed for Exercise BRIGHT STAR-23 in Egypt.
More information about the news:
- The exercise is a multilateral tri-service event held biennially at Cairo (West) Air Base.
- This marks the first time that the IAF is participating in Ex BRIGHT STAR-23.
- Participating nations include the United States, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Qatar, and India.
- The exercise aims to practice joint operations planning and execution.
- Participation fosters cross-border bonds and strengthens strategic relations.
- India and Egypt share a strong relationship and historical cooperation.
- Both nations collaborated on aero-engine, aircraft development, and pilot training in the 1960s.
- Recent visits by Air Force Chiefs, Defence Minister, and Prime Minister further solidified ties.
- Joint training exercises have become regular between the Armed Forces of India and Egypt.
