1. 10x growth in procurement from Government e-Marketplace in last 3 years: Union Commerce and Industry Minister.

- Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, praised all stakeholders of GeM for their role in bringing about a transformative change in the public procurement landscape of the country.
- He highlighted the significant growth of procurement from GeM, with a “10x” increase in the last three years.

Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is an online platform established by the Government of India to facilitate procurement of goods and services by various government departments, organizations, and public sector undertakings (PSUs). It was launched in August 2016 as part of the government’s Digital India initiative.
Here are some key points about GeM:
- Objectives: GeM aims to transform the public procurement process in India by leveraging technology and promoting transparency, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Unified Platform: GeM provides a single platform for government buyers to procure a wide range of goods and services, including IT products, office supplies, vehicles, furniture, consulting services, and more. It eliminates the need for multiple procurement platforms and streamlines the process.
- Seller Registration: Suppliers and service providers interested in selling to the government can register on GeM. The platform provides opportunities for both large enterprises and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to participate in government procurement.
- Transparent and Competitive Bidding: GeM facilitates a transparent and competitive bidding process. Buyers can create tenders and invite bids from registered sellers. The platform ensures fair play and promotes competition among sellers, resulting in better pricing and quality of goods and services.
- Easy Search and Comparison: GeM offers advanced search and comparison features, allowing buyers to find the desired products or services from multiple sellers. It provides detailed specifications, price comparisons, and user ratings to help buyers make informed decisions.
- Savings and Cost Optimization: GeM promotes cost optimization and savings for the government by aggregating demand and leveraging economies of scale. The increased utilization of GeM has resulted in significant savings of taxpayers’ money.
- Integration with Government Systems: GeM is integrated with various government systems, such as the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), and Central Public Procurement Portal (CPPP). This integration ensures seamless information exchange and enhances efficiency.

2. E-Sewa Kendras – Bridging the digital divide & ensuring justice for All

Context:
- The law ministry stated that – 815 eSewa Kendras have been established under 25 High Courts in India.
- The eSewa Kendras aim to bridge the digital divide by providing e-filing services to lawyers and litigants.

eSewa Kendras are an integral part of the e-Courts Mission Mode Project (MMP) implemented by the Government of India. These Kendras serve as service delivery points within the court complexes, aiming to provide convenient access to citizen-centric services and case-related information to lawyers and litigants. - Objective: The primary objective of eSewa Kendras is to enhance access to justice and improve the efficiency of court services by leveraging technology. They aim to bridge the digital divide and enable easier access to legal services for all stakeholders.
- Services Offered: eSewa Kendras offer a range of services related to the court proceedings, including:
- e-Filing of cases: Lawyers and litigants can file their cases electronically through the Kendras, reducing paperwork and saving time.
- Information and Assistance: The Kendras provide information and assistance related to case status, court procedures, case listing, and other relevant details.
- Facilitation Services: They offer support in accessing court-related services, such as online case status checks, certified copies of documents, and case-related notifications.
- Training and Awareness: The Kendras also conduct training sessions and awareness programs to educate lawyers and litigants about e-filing procedures and other digital initiatives.
- eSewa Kendras play a crucial role in promoting digitization and improving access to justice in India. By providing e-filing services and other related support, they contribute to streamlining court procedures, reducing paperwork, and enhancing convenience for lawyers and litigants.

3. Mines Ministry to Unveil “List of Critical Minerals for India”

Context:
- The Ministry of Mines, Government of India, will unveil the list of Critical Minerals for India.
More information about the news;
- The list aims to reduce import dependencies, enhance supply chain resilience, and support the country’s net zero objectives.
- Union Minister of Coal, Mines & Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, will release the Critical Minerals list.
- The list will prioritize minerals crucial for industries like high-tech electronics, telecommunications, transport, and defense.
- It will serve as a framework for policy formulation, strategic planning, and investment decisions in the mining sector.
- The release of the Critical Minerals List aligns with India’s commitment to achieving a robust and resilient mineral sector and the net zero target.

4. Shri Nitin Gadkari says total length of National Highways in the country increased by about 59% in the last nine years

Context:
- The total length of National Highways in India has increased by about 59% in the last nine years.
Factual data about road development in recent years:
- India now has the second-largest road network in the world after the US.
- The length of 4-lane National Highways has doubled in the last nine years, from 18,371 km to 44,654 km.
- Introduction of FASTag has led to a significant jump in toll collection, with revenues rising to Rs 41,342 crore in 2022-23 from Rs 4,770 crore in 2013-14.
- Waiting time at toll plazas has reduced from 734 seconds in 2014 to 47 seconds in 2023, with the goal of further reducing it to 30 seconds.
- Special emphasis is being laid on expanding the road highway network in the North East region, with projects worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore underway.
- Green initiatives: NHAI has undertaken green initiatives such as tree transplantation and plantation of 3.86 crore trees. More than 15,000 Amrit Sarovars (water bodies) have been developed along National Highways.
- The Ministry has also unveiled a vision for increased Electric Vehicle adoption over the next five years to promote clean energy and reduce carbon emissions.

5. Helen Keller’s Day Celebrated on 27th June

- Helen Keller Day is observed on June 27 annually to celebrate the birth of Helen Keller.
Who was Helen Keller?
- Helen Keller was an extraordinary American author, political activist, and lecturer.
- Helen Keller, despite being deaf and blind, achieved great success in life and became a prolific writer and advocate for people with disabilities.
- Keller’s co-founded the “American Foundation for the Blind” in 1921, an organization that aimed to improve the lives of visually impaired individuals through advocacy, research, and support services.
- As a renowned lecturer, Keller traveled extensively, sharing her experiences and perspectives with audiences worldwide. She spoke passionately about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and called for equal rights, accessibility, and opportunities for all.
- On Helen Keller Day, the progress made in supporting and accommodating individuals with disabilities is recognized.
