1. Ministry of Education releases report on Performance Grading Index 2.0 for States/UTs for the year 2021-22.

What’s in the news?

• The Indian Education System is one of the largest in the world with millions of schools, teachers, and students.
• The Performance Grading Index (PGI) was devised by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, to assess the performance of the education system at the state/UT level.
• PGI 2.0 is the revised version of the index, which includes updated indicators aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• PGI 2.0 comprises 73 indicators grouped into two categories: Outcomes and Governance Management.
• The categories are further divided into six domains: Learning Outcomes, Access, Infrastructure & Facilities, Equity, Governance Process, and Teachers Education and Training.
• States/UTs are classified into ten grades based on their scores, with Daksh being the highest achievable grade and Akanshi-3 being the lowest.
• The aim of PGI 2.0 is to drive interventions and improvements in education outcomes across all dimensions.
• The scores and grades achieved in PGI 2.0 for 2021-22 highlight areas where states/UTs need to focus on improvement.
• PGI 2.0 serves as a tool for states/UTs to identify gaps and prioritize areas for intervention in order to strengthen the education system.
