1. Prime Minister acknowledges highest ever number of patents granted so far in 2023-24

Patents in India:

- Methods of treatment of human or animal body by surgery or therapy
- Processes for producing agricultural products

The term of a patent in India is typically 20 years from the date of filing of the patent application.

2. India aims to lead Global Maritime sector with the success of PM Maritime Amritkaal Vision: Shri Sarbananda Sonowal

Context:
- Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, chaired a mid-term review meeting to discuss the progress of 162 projects with a Rs. 1 trillion investment, aimed at realizing the ‘PM Maritime Amritkaal Vision’ by 2047.
What are the initiatives undertaken?
- India is working towards becoming a global leader in the maritime sector by 2047.
- The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) is reviewing the progress of 162 projects with an investment of Rs. 1 trillion.
- The government is focusing on building “Made In India” Green Tugs at Cochin Shipyard.
- Deendayal Port Authority and VO Chidambaranar Port Authority are setting up Green Hydrogen Hubs.
- The government is also focusing on developing inland waterways and promoting lighthouse tourism.
