Context:

• Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is actively participating in the 42nd Indian International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from November 14 to 27.
• The stall serves as a platform to create awareness among the general public about the features and benefits of the Jan Aushadhi initiative.

Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana

         Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is an initiative of the Government of India aimed at providing quality generic medicines at affordable prices to the masses, especially the economically weaker sections of society. The program was launched to reduce the out-of-pocket expenses on healthcare and make essential medicines accessible to all.

Key features of the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana include:

• Affordable Medicines: Under this scheme, generic medicines are made available at significantly lower prices compared to their branded counterparts. This helps in reducing the financial burden on patients.
• Quality Assurance: The medicines available under PMBJP are required to adhere to strict quality standards. The government ensures that the drugs meet the necessary regulatory requirements and are of high quality.
• Jan Aushadhi Stores: Jan Aushadhi stores are set up across the country to sell generic medicines. These stores are run by individuals, NGOs, or other organizations. The government provides support to the owners of these stores to ensure the availability of affordable medicines.
• Wide Range of Medicines: The scheme covers a broad spectrum of medicines, including those used for chronic and common illnesses. The goal is to make a wide range of essential medicines available at affordable prices.
• Public Awareness Campaigns: The government conducts awareness campaigns to inform the public about the benefits of generic medicines and the availability of affordable options through Jan Aushadhi stores.

2. INDIA – SRI LANKA JOINT EXERCISE MITRA SHAKTI – 2023 COMMENCED TODAY

Topic: GS2 – defence exercises

Context:

• The joint exercise MITRA SHAKTI – 2023 between India and Sri Lanka began today.

Additional details of the news:

• Exercise Name:“Exercise MITRA SHAKTI-2023”
• Location: Aundh (Pune)
• Duration: November 16 to November 29, 2023
• Participating Forces:
  • Indian contingent: 120 personnel, mainly from the MARATHA LIGHT INFANTRY Regiment
  • Sri Lankan contingent: Represented by personnel from 53 Infantry Division
  • Additional participation: 15 personnel from the Indian Air Force and five personnel from the Sri Lankan Air Force
• Objective: Jointly rehearse Sub Conventional operations, with a focus on counter-terrorist operations.
• Scope of Exercise:
  • Tactical actions: Raid, search and destroy missions, heliborne operations, etc.
  • Inclusion of Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR), combat reflex shooting, and Yoga in the exercise curriculum.
