1. India-Mongolia joint military exercise “Nomadic Elephant – 2023” to commence at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Topic: GS2 – Defence cooperation.

Context:

  • Indian Army contingent of 43 personnel left for Mongolia to participate in the 15th edition of the bilateral joint military exercise “NOMADIC ELEPHANT-23.”
  • The exercise will take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 17 to 31 July 2023.

More information about the news:

  • The exercise is conducted alternately in Mongolia and India, with the previous edition held in October 2019 at Special Forces Training School, Bakloh.
  • Soldiers from the Mongolian Armed Forces Unit 084 and the Indian Army’s JAMMU AND KASHMIR LIGHT INFANTRY Regiment will participate.
  • The aim of the exercise is to build positive military relations, exchange best practices, develop inter-operability, camaraderie, and friendship between the two armies.
  • The primary focus of the exercise will be on counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain under the United Nations mandate.
  • The scope of the exercise includes Platoon level Field Training Exercise (FTX).
  • Training activities will involve endurance training, reflex firing, room intervention, small team tactics, and rock craft training.

2. President of India to present the “Bhoomi Samman” 2023 on 18th July, 2023

Topic: GS1 – Government awards.

Context:

  • The President of India will present the “Bhoomi Samman” 2023 on July 18, 2023, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • The award will be given to 9 State Secretaries and 68 District Collectors along with their teams who have excelled in achieving saturation of the core components of the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP).

About “Bhoomi Samman”:

  • The “Bhoomi Samman” Scheme promotes Centre-State cooperative federalism and is based on trust and partnership.
  • The grading system for the award is based on reports and inputs from the States/UTs regarding computerization and digitization of land records.
  • The digitization process of land records and registration aims to reduce the pendency of court cases involving land disputes and minimize the GDP loss caused by stalled projects.
  • Land records information can be effectively used to enhance the delivery of services and benefits in various government departments such as Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Chemical and Fertilizer, Public Distribution System (PDS), Panchayati Raj, and Financial Institutions.
  • The effectiveness of service delivery in these departments relies on the uniformity and interoperability of land records.

3. PM-MITRA mega textile parks will bolster productivity, foster innovation and generate many employment opportunities: PM

Topic: GS2 – Government initiatives.

Context:

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi praised the foundation stone laying ceremonies for two PM-MITRA mega textile parks in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
  • The parks will be established in Amravati, Maharashtra, and Navsari, Gujarat.
  • The Prime Minister highlighted that the textile parks will enhance productivity and foster innovation.

About PM-MITRA scheme:

  • The PM-MITRA (Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) scheme is a government initiative to set up mega textile parks across India. The scheme aims to create world-class infrastructure for the textile industry, promote innovation, and boost exports.
  • The parks will be set up on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with the central government providing financial assistance and the state government providing land and other support. Each park will have a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to oversee its development and operation.
  • The parks will offer a range of facilities, including:
    1. Ready-made infrastructure for spinning, weaving, processing, and garment manufacturing
    2. Common effluent treatment plants
    3. Training and research facilities
    4. Plug-and-play facilities for small and medium enterprises
  • The parks are expected to attract investment of around Rs. 10,000 crore each and create around 1 lakh direct and 2 lakh indirect jobs. They are also expected to boost exports by around $10 billion annually.
