1. Government of India has taken several steps to strengthen all the cooperative societies of the country.
Topic: GS3 – cooperative sector.
Context:
- Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, has initiated a significant decision to computerize and empower the registrars in all 28 states and 8 union territories.
Additional information on this news:
- Additionally, 1,851 Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (ARDBs) operating in 13 states will also be computerized through a national unified software.
- The scheme is modeled after the computerization scheme for Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) in the country.
- Offices of Registrar of Cooperatives in all States/Union Territories will undergo computerization similar to the Central Registrar.
- A Central Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) will be established to ensure the successful implementation of the scheme.
- The scheme’s implementation aims to provide quick access to services offered by Cooperative Departments and ARDB offices, while also enhancing transparency and uniformity in their operations for increased efficiency and time savings
2. World Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day Celebrations highlight role of Hydrogen in building a Sustainable and Prosperous Future

Context:
- Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri R. K. Singh, emphasized the importance of embracing hydrogen as a key player in the energy transition on the occasion of world hydrogen and fuel cell day.
Role of Hydrogen in future:
- Clean Energy Source: Hydrogen is considered a clean energy source because when it’s used as a fuel, the only byproduct is water vapor. This makes hydrogen a crucial component in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
- Renewable Energy Storage: Hydrogen can be used to store excess energy generated from renewable sources like wind and solar power. This stored energy can then be converted back into electricity when needed.
- Transportation: FCVs offer a clean alternative to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and have the advantage of fast refueling and longer driving ranges.
- Industrial Processes: Hydrogen is a crucial feedstock for various industrial processes, including the production of ammonia for fertilizers, petroleum refining, and the creation of high-temperature heat for industries such as steel manufacturing.
- Grid Balancing: Hydrogen can be injected into natural gas pipelines, providing a way to store excess energy and balance electricity grids. This process, called power-to-gas, can help manage fluctuations in energy supply and demand.
- Heating and Cooling: Hydrogen can be used for heating and cooling in residential and commercial buildings.
- Aerospace: Hydrogen has been used as a fuel in rockets and is being explored as a potential fuel for future aviation to reduce emissions from air travel.
- Maritime Industry: Hydrogen fuel cells can be used in ships, providing a clean alternative to traditional fossil fuels and helping to reduce emissions in the maritime industry.
