1. India-Tanzania to work for the collective good of Africa and India: Shri Piyush Goyal

- Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, welcomed the President of Tanzania, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, at the India Tanzania Investment Forum in New Delhi.
- The friendship between India and Tanzania has been elevated to a strategic partnership.
Importance of India – East African nations relations:
- Economic Partnerships: India’s relations with East African nations, including Tanzania, are crucial for economic cooperation and trade.
- Strategic Location: East Africa serves as a vital geographic link for India to access the Indian Ocean region and beyond.
- Diaspora Connection: Significant Indian diaspora in East African nations contributes to cultural, economic, and social ties.

- Development Initiatives: India supports infrastructure and capacity-building projects in East Africa, promoting development.
- Energy Resources: Access to East Africa’s energy resources, including natural gas, is essential for India’s energy security.

2. Competition Commission of India to host 8th BRICS International Competition Conference
Topic: GS2 – National organisations
Context:
- 8th BRICS International Competition Conference (BRICS ICC) 2023 hosted by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
- Themed as ‘New Issues in Competition Law and Policy – Dimensions, Perspectives, Challenges.’
- Conference taking place in New Delhi from October 11th to 13th, 2023.
About competition commission of India:
- Establishment: The CCI was established under the Competition Act, 2002. It became fully functional in 2009.
- Regulatory Authority: It is the primary regulatory body in India responsible for enforcing competition laws, preventing anti-competitive practices, and ensuring a competitive business environment.
- Competition Act: The CCI operates in accordance with the Competition Act, 2002, which covers various aspects of competition policy and law in India.
- Objectives: The main objectives of the CCI include promoting competition and preventing practices that have an adverse effect on competition. It aims to protect the interests of consumers while ensuring the freedom of trade and competition in the marketplace.
- Composition: The CCI is composed of a Chairperson and a minimum of two and a maximum of six members. These individuals are appointed by the government.
- Functions: The CCI has several functions, including investigating anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant positions by companies, and regulating combinations (mergers and acquisitions) that may have adverse effects on competition.

3. Conduction of Cleanliness drive and mass awareness campaign related to the mandates and concepts of Mission LiFE

Context:
- Swachhata Hi Seva campaign conducted at various locations in Delhi, including Kalyanpuri, Connaught Place, Khanpur, Lodhi Garden, and India Gate.
- Under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
- Activities held from September 28th to October 2nd, 2023.
More about Mission LiFE:
- Lifestyles for Environment (LiFE) is an initiative by the Government of India to leverage the collective power of people to bring about a positive change in the environment and climate change.
- It is a call to action for individuals to adopt sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyles.
- The mission is to create a global movement to live in harmony with nature, by promoting sustainable lifestyles.
- It aims to bring about a paradigm shift in the way we live and consume, by making sustainable choices the norm.
- Mission LiFE is based on the principle of ProPlanet People (P3) – individuals who are conscious of their environmental impact and take steps to reduce it.
- The mission has seven key focus areas:
- Energy efficient appliances and lifestyle
- Water conservation and efficient use
- Waste reduction, recycling and reuse
- Sustainable transport
- Sustainable food production and consumption
- Sustainable building and construction
- Green spaces and biodiversity
