1. SHREYAS scheme empowers thousands.

Context:

  • The SHREYAS National Fellowship Scheme has had a positive impact on the lives of SC students. The scheme has helped them to pursue higher education and improve their employability. This has led to increased social and economic mobility for SC communities.

About SHREYAS scheme:

  • SHREYAS: Scheme for Higher Education Youth in Apprenticeship and Skills.
  • Objective: Enhance students’ employability by providing apprenticeships and skill development opportunities during higher education.
  • Integration: Integrates apprenticeship-based learning into the higher education system.
  • Financial Support: Offers financial incentives to students for participating in apprenticeships.
  • Eligibility: Open to undergraduates and postgraduates in UGC-recognized institutions.
  • Skill Development: Focuses on both technical and soft skills development.
  • Industry Partnerships: Promotes collaboration between educational institutions and industries.
  • Budget Allocation: Government allocates a budget to support apprenticeships and skill development.
  • Monitoring: Regular monitoring and evaluation to assess impact.

2. PM hails inclusion of Sacred Ensembles of Hoysalas in UNESCO World Heritage List.

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi hailed the inclusion of the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
  • He shared a post on X by UNESCO expressing his pride in this achievement.
  • The Prime Minister celebrated the inscription of the Hoysala temples, describing them as a source of pride for India.

About Sacred Ensembles of Hoysalas:

The Hoysalas were a South Indian dynasty that ruled over the Deccan region from the 10th to the 14th century. They were known for their patronage of art and architecture, and one of the significant contributions of the Hoysalas was the creation of exquisite temple complexes. These temples, often referred to as “Sacred Ensembles of Hoysalas,” are renowned for their architectural beauty, intricate carvings, and artistic excellence. Here are some key points about the Sacred Ensembles of Hoysalas:

  • Location: The Sacred Ensembles of Hoysalas are primarily located in the Indian state of Karnataka, with a concentration in the districts of Hassan, Mandya, and Chikmagalur.
  • Architectural Style: The temples built by the Hoysalas are characterized by their unique architectural style known as “Hoysala architecture.” This style is famous for its star-shaped temple plans, intricate stone carvings, and detailed sculptures.
  • Material: The temples were constructed predominantly using soapstone, a soft stone that allowed for intricate carving and detailing.
  • Intricate Carvings: The hallmark of Hoysala architecture is the exquisite carvings that adorn the temple exteriors and interiors. These carvings depict various mythological and historical themes, including scenes from the Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
  • Temples of Note: Some of the most famous temples built by the Hoysalas include the Chennakesava Temple at Belur, the Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu, and the Keshava Temple at Somanathapura, among others.
  • Chennakesava Temple: The Chennakesava Temple at Belur is an iconic example of Hoysala architecture and is renowned for its intricate craftsmanship. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
  • Hoysaleswara Temple: The Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu is another remarkable temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It features a wealth of intricate sculptures and carvings.
  • Cultural Heritage: The Sacred Ensembles of Hoysalas are not only architectural marvels but also represent an essential part of India’s cultural and historical heritage. They continue to attract tourists, historians, and art enthusiasts from around the world.
