1) Special Campaign 2.0: Cleanliness campaign by Ministry of Mines

• The campaign was launched by the Secretary, Ministry of Mines on 22^nd oct, 2022 at New Delhi.
• The Ministry identified 84 site offices throughout India for implementing 116 Swachchta campaigns.
• Goal: “giving back to the environment.”

The campaign includes:

• Rainwater harvesting
• Compost pits
• Cleaning lakes/ponds
• Eco-disposal of waste.

 

2) Sovereign Gold Bonds 2023-24 (Series II)

• Sovereign Gold Bonds 2023-24 (Series II) will be opened for subscription during the period September 11-15, 2023 with Settlement date September 20, 2023 as published by RBI in their Press Release.

What are Sovereign Gold Bonds?

• SGBs are government securities denominated in grams of gold. 
• They are substitutes for holding physical gold. 
• Investors have to pay the issue price in cash and the bonds will be redeemed in cash on maturity.

Advantages:

• No capital gain tax
• There is no need to bear management expenses.
• It is issued by RBI on behalf of the Government of India which is a secure investment option.
• Low Risk.

Disadvantages:

• There is certain amount of risk involved.
• Market fluctuations.
• The issue of limited liquidity which can make it difficult to sell the bonds if the investor needs cash urgently.
