1. VICE-PRESIDENT OF INDIA TO CONFER SANGEET NATAK AKADEMI AMRIT AWARDS TOMORROW

Topic: GS1 – Indian art and culture

Context:

  • 84 artists from the field of performing arts in India, all above the age of 75 years and without any previous national honors in their careers, will receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Awards.

  • About the Awards: The Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Awards are a national honor given to performing artists, teachers, and scholars in the field of performing arts. They are chosen by the Akademi’s General Council, which includes distinguished musicians, dancers, theatre artists, and scholars, along with nominees from the Government of India, State Governments, and Union Territories.
  • Award Benefits: Each recipient will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees one lakh), along with a Tamrapatra and Angavastram as part of the honor.

  • Established: Founded in 1952.
  • Functions: Promotes and preserves the rich cultural heritage of India’s performing arts.
  • Recognition: Recognizes and honors outstanding artists, teachers, and scholars in the field of performing arts.
