1. INDIA-USA JOINT EXERCISE VAJRA PRAHAR COMMENCES IN UMROI, MEGHALAYA
Topic: GS2 – defence exercises
Context:
- The 14th edition of the Indo-US Joint Special Forces exercise “VAJRA PRAHAR 2023” has commenced.
Additional information on the news:
- The exercise aims at sharing best practices and experiences in areas such as joint mission planning and operational tactics.
- The exercise will be conducted in Umroi Cantonment, Meghalaya from 21st November to 11th December 2023.
- During the course of the next three weeks, both sides will jointly plan and rehearse a series of Special Operations, Counter Terrorist Operations, Air Borne operations in simulated conventional and unconventional scenarios in mountainous terrain.
- Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR has evolved as a mechanism to exchange ideas and share best practices between the Special Forces of both the nations.
- It is also a platform to enhance inter-operability and strengthen defence cooperation between the armies of India and the United States of America.

2. AIM– NITI Aayog launches new accelerator to support Australian and Indian circular economy startups to rise
Topic: GS2 – Government initiatives
Context:
- The new accelerator program, named Rapid Innovation and Startup Expansion (RISE), has been launched by AIM, NITI Aayog, with the aim of supporting startups in the circular economy sector in India and Australia.
- The program is a collaboration between CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, and Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), which is the flagship initiative of the Government of India to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Targeted Sector: The accelerator program specifically focuses on startups and SMEs working on circular economy technologies and solutions. The circular economy emphasizes sustainability by minimizing waste and making the most of resources through recycling and regeneration.
Atal Innovation Mission (AIM):
- Flagship Initiative: AIM is the flagship initiative of the Niti Aayog.
- Innovation Promotion: Its primary goal is to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
- Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL): AIM has established Atal Tinkering Labs in schools to nurture creativity and scientific thinking among students.
- Atal Incubation Centers (AIC): AICs are set up to support and incubate startups, fostering their growth and success.
- Atal Community Innovation Centers (ACIC): ACICs encourage innovation at the community level, addressing local challenges.
- Mentorship and Funding: AIM provides mentorship and funding support to innovators and startups through various programs.
- Broad Spectrum: It covers a broad spectrum, from school-level innovation to supporting advanced startups, contributing to India’s innovation ecosystem.
