1. PRESIDENT OF INDIA GRACES THE CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATIONS ORGANISED BY THE SUPREME COURT OF INDIA

- President Droupadi Murmu attended Constitution Day Celebrations in New Delhi on November 26, 2023.
Views expressed by the President:
- Emphasis on celebrating values enshrined in the Constitution: justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
- Recognition of these values as guiding principles for the nation-building process.
- President highlighted the importance of making justice accessible to all citizens.
- Identified barriers to justice, including cost and language comprehension.
- Advocated for a more varied representation in the judiciary to better serve the cause of justice.
- Proposed the creation of an All-India Judicial Service to recruit judges from diverse backgrounds.
- Called for a merit-based, competitive, and transparent process to select judges.
- Stressed the need to make the overall justice system more citizen-centric.
- Acknowledged the historical influence of colonialism on existing systems and called for conscious efforts in decolonization.
- Emphasized that the Constitution comes alive when its contents are put into practice through interpretation.
