1. Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities launches five Transformative Initiatives to empower Individuals with Disabilities.
Pratima Bhoumik, minister of state, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, unveiled the Initiative at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC).
This Initiative aimed at shaping the lives of Divyaangjan along the lines of the government’s commitment to their holistic development, empowerment and inclusive development.
Mos Pratima Bhoumik stressed that the PM DAKSH DEPwD portal shall act as a stop platform for divyangjan seeking skill training and employment opportunities and is aligned with the vision of PM Modi, i.e., Sabka sath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas, sabka Prayas.
About PM DAKSH Portal:
Launched by the Department of Empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Aimed at providing skill training find employment opportunities for the person with disabilities.
Eligibility: Beneficiaries between the age of 18-45 are eligible for a skill development training program.
The key features include seamless registration through UDID( Unique Disability ID) of PwDs, selection of courses according to their interest and needs, access to training partners, access to online study material, etc.
The Five Pioneering Transformative initiatives are:
- MOU with the Council of Architecture: This MOU will require universal accessibility courses to be part of the Bachelor of Architecture programs, and both will develop a certified course for architects and civil engineers to carry out accessibility audits in built environments, making sure they meet accessibility standards.
- Releasing of Anonymous Data of UDID: It focuses on data. DEPwD will release anonymous data through the UDID portal for research, and this data will help to make decisions that are based on real information. This is expected to give new insights for improving the lives of people with disabilities.
- PM Daksh Portal: This is a digital platform where people with disabilities can find employment opportunities. The portal will offer a range of skill training options, seamless registration through UDID, access to location-based skill training options, etc.
- Pathways to Access: The Book Courts on Disability Rights” compiled notable court judgments on disability rights from the Supreme Court as well as the high court. This will act as a reference guide for persons with disabilities and stakeholders in the disability sector.
- Online Case Monitoring Portal by Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities: The new application will handle complaints filed by persons with disabilities in a paperless way, making it easier to file complaints, get remainder and schedule hearings.
These five initiatives show DEPwD’s commitment to making life easier for persons with disabilities with the use of technology.
